Cast: Mugdha Godse, Priyanka Chopra, Kangna Ranaut, Arbaaz Khan
Director: Madhur Bhandarkar
Rating: ***
Director Madhur Bhandarkar has made some memorable movies like Page 3 and Chandni Bar and the expectations were quite high for his take on the Fashion industry in India. Sadly he dosent totally live up to the high expectations of the audiences.
Meghna (Priyanka Chopra) the lead star defies her parents and moves to Mumbai from Chandigarh to pursue her dream of becoming a model. She meets a gay friend who is an assistant designer who helps her. How she makes the right contacts at the right time remains a puzzle.. she just meets them!!
Shonali (Kangana Ranaut) a top model is in shambles with her cocaine and drinking habit. She is replaced by Priyanka who catches the attention of Abhijeet Sareen (Arbaaz Khan) the fashion mogul who runs fashion magazines, ad agencies etc. Priyanka soon becomes a top model but looses her boy friend and friends because of work pressure and her attitude. She also allows herself to be used by Arbaaz Khan to gain stardom but throws tantrum after she gets pregnant by him.
The movie depicts all girl models as victims in the fashion industry. Most fashion designers are gay men, do they get tired of seeing girls all the time?? Some of the scenes like Kangana on the streets and wardrobe malfunction are inspired from real life. The fashion industry is a dirty world behind all the glitz and glamour. This is the message Madhur liked to show in this movie. Sadly he dosent show how the designs are made and brought out to the industry.
Good performances by all the stars especially Priyanka. The director would have done much better had he trimmed the movie to 90 mins. At 3 hours it drags way too much in the second half. Go without any expectations, you will not be too disappointed with this movie.
